- Lake Trail encircles Lake Ballard <br />
- Riparian Trail winds through the woods between the central lake and the creek, bordering a wetland habitat <br />
- Bluebird Trail bisects a meadow and ends at a raised viewing platform overlooking the marsh and Hoffler Creek proper <br />
- Homestead Trail leads through woodland habitat and connects with a Spur Trail which ends at a large bird blind overlooking wetland habitat and another part of Hoffler Creek <br />
- Kids Trail cuts through more woods connecting pavilion with a raised lake viewing deck <br />
<br />
The preserve is 142 acres in size and the main Lake Trail loop is approximately one mile in length<br />
<br />
Kayak rentals available in warmer months<br />
10am-2:30pm, weather permitting. <br />
$10/hr ($5 for members) during the week<br />
$20/hr ($10 for members) on weekends<br />
Personal kayaks may be launched for a $5 weekday and $10 weekend fee (waived for members)<br />

No running, biking, pets, camping, hunting or fishing

Directions

FROM POINTS NORTH, SOUTH, & WEST: Take 664 to Hampton or Chesapeake. Take Portsmouth/Rt. 17 (Exit 9B) onto Rt. 164. Take 1st exit to Towne Point Rd. Turn left on to Towne Point Rd. (The road name will change to Twin Pines Rd.). Hoffler Creek is on the left at the intersection of Twin Pines Rd. and Woodside Lane.<br /><br /><br /><br />FROM POINTS EAST: Travel to Norfolk and take the tunnel of your choice to Portsmouth...<br /><br /><br /><br />Midtown Tunnel: Take Rt. 164 exit. Take Towne Point Rd. exit. Turn right onto Towne Point Rd. (The road name will change to Twin Pines Rd.). Follow Twin Pines Rd. for about 2 miles. Hoffler Creek is on the left at the intersection of Twin Pines Rd. and Woodside Lane.<br /><br /><br /><br />Downtown Tunnel: Take 1st exit after tunnel and turn right onto Effingham St. Turn left onto High St. & follow for 6 miles. Turn right onto Poplar Hill Rd. at shopping center. Go straight for approximately 3 miles. (The road name will change to Twin Pines Rd.). Hoffler Creek is on the left at the intersection of Twin Pines Rd. and Woodside Lane.
